FAQ – For Filmmakers

1. Where do I pick up my badge?

Badges will be available at the reception table the day you arrive. This table will move depending on the day (Thursday at the Beach Party, Friday at Ogden Hall, Saturday and Sunday at both Ogden Hall and the American Theatre).

2. Can I buy tickets at the door?

Yes.

3. What complimentary access pass do Official Selections receive?

Official Selections (including the new Trailer Competition category) receive one Creator’s Pass which allows access to all screening blocks (including special screenings). One (1) Creator’s Pass is issued per project, which is claimed at the reception desk of the festival. All other attendees (family, friends, supporters, and fans) need to purchase tickets for all events they plan to attend, including screenings.

4. Does the Creator’s Pass include access to the Awards Gala?

No. Everyone who attends the awards gala must purchase a ticket.

5. What if I have more than one project in competition?

You receive one Creator’s Pass for each project you have in competition.

6. Which VBFF events are Free?

The Juneteenth Beach Party, the Juneteenth Concert, and the Black Business Expo are free and open to the public. RSVP on the website is encouraged to receive gifts and discounts. All other events require tickets.

7. Will there be a Q&A after my screening?

Yes. Q&As will be held in the lobby outside the theater in front of the step and repeat banner immediately after each screening. This is an on-camera Q&A which will be shared on social media.

8. What is the Stage Combat Workshop?

It’s a 3-hour workshop where you will learn stage combat from the action designer of the movie “Blowback” starring Clifton Powell. A seven-time sport karate and kung fu world champion and two-time All-American champion, “The Bam” is the creator of Wushudo Universal Martial Arts.

9. Can Official Selections exhibit in the Black Business Expo?

Yes. In fact, it is encouraged. This event is free and open to the public, so it is a great way to expand your market and network with entrepreneurs from various industries. It’s co-located at the American Theatre, making it a great way to get more people to attend your screening. You can sell DVDs, swag, or just about any product. Cost to exhibit is $300 for two days.

10. Can an Official Selection sponsor VBFF?

Only with signs. If you have a printed sign, you can pay $100 to display this sign for all 4 days. VBFF will manufacture this sign for $350 (you keep it afterward). Only accepted size: 6’ tall x 3’ wide.

11. Can I buy a ticket to attend just one film?

Yes. Just select “Single Film Screening”.

12. Which VBFF events are Free?

No. The Awards Gala is for the general public to interact with the stars and community leaders.

15. Are group discounts available?

Yes. Discount codes must be issued at least one week prior to the festival. Email info@virginiablackfilmfestival.com to request a code.

16. What is the deadline to become a sponsor?

June 6th.

17. What is the deadline to become a vendor?

June 16th or while supplies last.
